Producers at Plimsoll Studios, a Bristol-based production company that creates global series for broadcasters and streaming platforms such as the BBC, Disney+, National Geographic, Apple TV and Netflix, to name a few, are looking for gardens across the UK to feature in a new wildlife series. The series will showcase the secret lives of British wildlife and is set to air on a public service broadcaster, with filming taking place during late 2026 and 2027.
Fernanda Prudencio, producer, says “We are looking for gardens across the UK to feature in this new series for a public service broadcaster, with filming taking place during late 2026 and 2027,” and “Each episode will focus on one special garden and reveal the wildlife that calls it home.” “We are searching for gardens bursting with character, nature, and life—big or small, wild or manicured, urban or rural,” she adds.
They’re accepting submissions of everything from allotments and community gardens to cottage, country, and riverside spaces. The owners don’t need to be experts, just passionate about their spaces, ideally with an interesting backstory of what the garden means to them, and plenty of enthusiasm for the animals that visit.
Garden Selection Criteria
“We want to discover gardens with a story to tell,” adds Fernanda. “Gardens are surprisingly biodiverse,” she says. “It’s estimated that several thousand species of animal and plant live in a ‘normal’ suburban garden. We plan to reveal this hidden biodiversity, reminding audiences that you don’t have to travel far to discover incredible wildlife.”

Producers hope that the show will encourage people to see their own gardens in a new way – as rich, fascinating habitats teeming with life – and inspire them to create a variety of habitats that welcome a diverse range of wildlife while helping to protect our native species. “Similar shows have demonstrated that audiences are genuinely fascinated by the wildlife on their doorsteps,” says Fernanda. “Springwatch, for example, showed that everyday British wildlife can create a strong emotional connection with viewers, while initiatives such as Gardenwatch have successfully turned that interest into participation and practical action.
The opportunity now is to take that one step further: make the garden itself the stage. By revealing the extraordinary wildlife living in these familiar spaces, the show could inspire audiences not just to watch, but to actively create better habitats and make their own gardens work harder for wildlife.”
