Vipp is adding two models to its Swivel chair line, aiming at users who spend long periods at a desk or in a boardroom.
New models target extended office use
The Danish design firm announced the Vipp 454 and Vipp 455 for September. The 454 comes without armrests, while the 455 includes slender armrests that flow into the padded backrest. Both chairs feature a longer back support and a larger seat cushion, offering extra padding for comfort.
Construction relies on a firm core of braided belts and wood, wrapped in dense foam layers. This creates a seat that feels soft yet remains supportive. The chairs sit on a pivot system that can be fitted with either a four‑leg or five‑leg base, and users may choose castors or gliders depending on the floor surface.

Design evolution rooted in Vipp’s history
Since its first release five years ago, the Swivel series has become a staple in creative studios and corporate offices worldwide. The brand says the new models respond to customers who need a “spin for every space,” reflecting a shift toward more ergonomic office furniture.
“The expansion of the series has been a natural evolution, much like many other Vipp collections, adapting over time in response to the different ways we’ve seen customers use our chairs across a variety of settings,” said Kasper Egelund, third‑generation co‑owner and CEO. He added that product development at Vipp prioritizes longevity over speed, noting the iconic bin took 87 years to reach six sizes.
Vipp’s expertise in metalwork dates back to the 1939 launch of its pedal bin, a piece still recognized for its durability. The Swivel chairs continue that legacy, featuring a sculptural aluminium frame that enables smooth rotation while maintaining a sleek profile.
From a practical standpoint, the two chairs also offer a “+” version with adjustable seat height and a tilt function, allowing users to fine‑tune the seating angle. This flexibility could make the chairs suitable for both executive offices and conference rooms, where varying user preferences are common.
